This recipe for postnatal sitz bath uses a soothing herbal blend to encourage postnatal recovery. Chamomile has a gentle and soothing action, while calendula helps to improve natural cellular regeneration. Shepherd’s purse and yarrow have anti-inflammatory properties, while cleansing lavender nurtures the skin and adds a relaxing scent to the bath.
- 2 tbsp calendula,
- 2 tbsp chamomile,
- 2 tbsp lavender,
- 1 tbsp yarrow,
- 1 tbsp shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris).
Makes enough for 1 bath treatment
- Make an infusion by pouring enough boiling water over the herbs.
- When cool, add the blend to a warm shallow bath (the water should only reach to the level of your hips). Soak for 10 minutes in the bath. If you have had stitches, take only one sitz bath daily.
